7NEWS and RAC seek WA’s Local Champions
7NEWS, together with RAC, WA’s local insurer, is once again seeking nominations to find Western Australia’s Local Champions and give them the recognition they so richly deserve.
Launched in 2022, the 7NEWS Local Champions Awards acknowledge the volunteers, carers and selfless, unsung heroes who quietly dedicate their time to helping the lives of others within their community.
Every Wednesday and Sunday night for the next 10 weeks, 7NEWS will tell the stories of Local Champions who have been nominated by fellow community members.
With the support of RAC, a total of $15,500 in prize money will be awarded across eight categories based on contribution and impact in the local community, with a major prize of $5,000 awarded to the overall winner.
The prize categories are:
1. 7NEWS RAC Local Champion
2. Small Business Champion
3. Environmental Champion
4. School Champion
5. Seniors Champion
6. Sports Champion
7. Arts Champion
8. Change Champion
7NEWS Perth News Director, Ray Kuka, said: “The overwhelmingly positive response to last year’s awards confirmed for us that viewers want to see uplifting stories which involve and impact their friends and neighbours.
“We are honoured to acknowledge the members of our community who are giving so much of themselves without expecting anything in return.”

Entries close Wednesday, 28 June 2023, with winners announced at the Local Champions Awards Ceremony in August and aired on 7NEWS.
