Perth expat Lee Taylor launches his own agency in the UK after being inspired to do so in Perth

The UK industry saw a new agency launch last year – one inspired by the Perth industry and digital agency at the time, Longtail.

Perth expat Lee Taylor has launched his own agency, Uncommon Sense, in the United Kingdom. A move he says was inspired by his time in Perth working at Longtail.

Taylor spent most of his childhood between WA and the Sussex in the UK. He studied marketing management at University in the UK – then worked for Berkeley Group for a time after his degree. After moving back to WA he worked at Synergy before starting to work for Longtail in 2015.

At Longtail he was part of the St John Ambulance ‘most important thing’ campaign as well as working on ECU and Lotterywest for several years.

“Unfortunately Longtail no longer exists but some of the people I worked with there were a huge influence on my career and set me on the path I am on today,” said Taylor. “After working with Carlo Bertozzi and Sharon Heaton (the agency owners) I knew I wanted to run my own agency one day. I had the pleasure of working with Chris Andrawes, Josh Edge, Tyson Knowles and Ben Derham on a number of amazing accounts”.

Taylor said unfortunately, he had to move back to the UK for family issues and worked as Head of Marketing for a big tour and travel company before starting his own agency last year.

“At Uncommon Sense we use a combination of evolutionary consumer psychology and best-in-class digital expertise to create marketing campaigns that target innate needs, preferences and drives. My ambition is to open an office in Perth – with some great brands based there – I think one day there will be an opportunity for a new kid on the block.”

“If it hadn’t been for Longtail and the WA ad industry I would never have got to where I have today,” said Taylor.
