NOVA 93.7 holds #1 overall from MIX 94.5 and 96FM in Perth Radio’s third survey of the year

Nova holds #1 three surveys in a row, Mix 94.5 retains #2 closely followed by 96FM. Stela Media’s Marianne Stelmach, who has over two decades of radio industry experience, takes a closer look at the results of today’s GFK Radio Survey 3, 2021.

 

#1 Overall – Nova 93.7
#1 Breakfast – Nova’s Nathan, Nat & Shaun
#1 Drive – Nova’s Kate, Tim & Joel

The stability of Nova’s line up in 2021 has them retaining their #1 overall position, up 0.2 points to a 13.5% share, in the GFK Survey 3 results. Their Breakfast Show with Nathan, Nat & Shaun also remained strong #1, up 0.1 points to 15%. Drive with Kate, Tim & Joel had a big increase of 1.9 points taking them to 17.1% clear #1 position. They are also clear #1 in the 10-17, 18-24 & 25-39 demographics.

Despite a 0.7 point drop, Mix 94.5 have kept their #2 position with 11.9%. Pete, Matt & Kymba have held their #2 position in Breakfast after being rebranded with the departure of Dean Clairs. Mix 94.5 have also held their #1 position in the 40-54 demographic.

96FM had the biggest overall increase with 0.4 points to 11.1% retaining #3 position but only 0.8 points behind #2 Mix 94.5. The Bunch with Clairsy & Lisa’s Breakfast Show dropped 0.4 points and stayed at #4 position. The 96FM Drive Show with Will & Woody also had a big increase of 1.9 points taking them to 12% retaining #3 position but sitting only 0.7 points behind Mix 94.5. 96FM are also #1 in the 55-64 demographic.

6PR held it’s #4 overall position with a 0.2 increase to 9.5%. The new Breakfast, Morning & Afternoon line-ups have paid off for the station with Gareth Parker retaining #3 Breakfast position, even with a 0.6 point drop. Liam Bartlett jumped from #4 position to #3 with a 1.4 point increase in his Morning Show and Steve Mills had the biggest increase in Afternoons with 1.1 points to equal #4 position with 92.9 Triple M.

92.9 Triple M had an overall decrease of 0.3 points taking them to 7.9% and retaining #4 position. Breakfast with Basil, Xav & Jenna were the only show to have an increase across the Station. They are at 8.6% and still sitting at #5. Overall 92.9 Triple M are still sitting at #2 in the 18-24 and 25-39 demographic.

6IX didn’t have much movement with a slight decrease of 0.3 points to 4.2%. However, their Evening and Weekend shows had increases.

The survey also saw another great increase in Commercial Radio Listenership in Perth overall.

Mix 94.5 – 517,000 (11,000 Increase)
96FM – 408,000 (Down 4,000)
92.9 Triple M – 372,000 (25,000 Increase)
6PR – 189,000 (38,000 Increase)
6IX – 132,000 (1,000 Increase)

Perth DAB+ Stations – Smooth retained #1 even with a decrease of audience. 80’s (96FM) moved up to #3 with the biggest increase of 4,000.

OLDSKOOL 90’s Hits (MMM) – 31,000 (Down 5,000)
80’s (96fm) – 31,000 (4,000 Increase)
Coles Radio (Nova) – 29,000 (Down 4,000)
Buddha Hits (SCA) – 20,000 (3,000 Increase)
MMM Classic Rock (MIX) – 19,000 (Down 8,000)

Nova are the clear winner in Survey 3 holding it’s #1 position overall and in Breakfast, Drive and standout 606,000 Cume. It looks like a race between Mix 94.5 and 96FM only 0.8 points away from each other being #2 and #3 overall consecutively. Mix 94.5 are also only just beating 96FM in the 40-54 demographic. 6PR have shown strong increases and are close to Mix 94.5’s #2 Breakfast Show. 92.9 Triple M will see their increase of 38,000 cume audience as a positive towards Survey 4.

Survey 3, 2021 was conducted by GFK for Commercial Radio Australia from Sunday February 28 to Saturday May 22, 2021. We had the Easter break rolling into two weeks school holidays. There was only one short border closure and lockdown in this time.  Survey 4, 2021 results are due Tuesday July 6.
