Media Stable hosts #MeetTheMedia Perth at the Australian Institute of Management

Yesterday, Wednesday 1st September at the Australian Institute of Management, Media Stable hosted Australia’s largest media engagement and education program for some of WA’s leading businesses, brands, and individuals.

The event is a half-day opportunity for media and experts to spend time together to understand what the media cycle looks like today and what kind of media assets experts can be for media.

The morning was action-packed with tips and advice. There were plenty of laughs, the occasional shock and plenty of honest feedback. #MeetTheMedia is a unique opportunity to meet nine of Perth’s key media, and the desire to understand media hasn’t waned, with both of this year’s events selling out.

“The quality of the attendees and the media truly demonstrated one common goal – that there is a need and desire to better communicate with each other,” says Nic Hayes, Managing Director of Media Stable and host of #MeetTheMedia. “Some of the truth bombs media delivered really went off with a bang for many who didn’t really understand the reality of a modern news cycle.”

Some of the notable discussion points and observations on the day:

The days of the media or press release are numbered – most media just aren’t reading them.

The media is desperate for stories that aren’t COVID related. However, it was acknowledged that COVID will be part of the media fabric for many years to come.

Relationships and trust are very important when delivering information – cold emailing or calling, seldom results in breakthrough.

Keep your pitches and stories short, sharp, and concise.

The real value #MeetTheMedia brings to both media and attendees is during the workshop sessions when attendees have time to personally connect with the media – either with a story idea, their elevator pitch, or a personal introduction. This is when real connections are made, and stories are potentially going to find traction.

Positive feedback is rolling in from both media and attendees. The media appreciate the time to meet and engage new talent and stories. The attendees are grateful for the direction and advice given to them to improve their ‘storytelling’.

The next #MeetTheMedia in Perth isn’t scheduled until March 2022 but there is an online Digital #MeetTheMedia taking place on 9th of September with two of Australia’s leading producers from radio stations 2GB and 3AW. Tickets are just $25 for this event and promises to deliver.

Tickets for the Zoom can be purchased here.
