Kiosk and The Space Station call on ordinary gardeners to help save Geographe Bay

Kiosk, working in partnership with Pete Walmsley from The Space Station, was asked to help promote the fact that locals can play an essential role in protecting Geographe Bay and its wildlife, simply by adopting four simple behaviours in the garden.

Bay OK Gardens is an urban fertiliser project operated by GeoCatch in Busselton, designed to protect the region’s waterways. Nutrient runoff is one of the main threats to the health and biodiversity of the sea meadows in Geographe Bay.

The Garden Guardians of the Bay campaign was created to bring people together in a combined community effort to protect the environment and educate them in gardening methods that will prevent nutrients from getting into the waterways, ultimately ending up in the Bay.

A series of posters, information materials and outdoor activations capture the vital and heroic role home gardeners have in saving the environment.

Adam Cannell, Kiosk, Creative Director, said: “To bring the concept to life, we created a series of images and characters reminiscent of traditional superhero posters that champion everyday people and a specific gardening technique. This was combined with a font treatment and lock-up that channelled classic superhero styling.”

Information cards used the colour, style and typographic feel of 50’s and 60’s era comic books, while the illustrations of plants and animals make you think of vintage drawings to give the cards an informative feel that’s easy to read but still fun.

Local photographer, Tim Campbell, did a brilliant job in bringing out the heroes in our local talent.

Lisa Massey, GeoCatch Bay OK Project Officer, said, “Kiosk guided us through the process of developing images and design to match our marketing messaging. The results are fantastic, with very current and adaptable designs which have been received enthusiastically by the public and industry alike.”

Ultimately, people need to know they can have a beautiful garden while saving the world of the plants and animals that live in Geographe Bay.
